Why do you feel this person deserves to be honored? : Nomination Statement: Volunteers of Save Cuesta Inlet

I am honored to nominate the volunteers of Save Cuesta Inlet for Citizen of the Year.

Over the past 43 months—through sheer dedication, perseverance, and love for this community—these volunteers worked tirelessly to secure the permanent protection of Cuesta Inlet. They never gave up, even when the goal seemed out of reach. Their commitment exemplifies outstanding service to Los Osos over a sustained period of time.

Throughout this multi-year effort, volunteers provided leadership and support across nearly every facet of community life. They organized educational events, partnered with environmental and conservation groups, engaged local businesses, supported youth and families through hands-on activities, and collaborated with seniors, civic organizations, and churches. Their work united residents from every corner of Los Osos and created one of the most collaborative grassroots efforts our town has ever seen.

On December 5th—fittingly, a day marked by the peak King Tide—ownership of Cuesta Inlet transferred from private individuals to a foundation formed by these very volunteers, ensuring the Inlet will be stewarded for public benefit for generations to come.

Because of this sustained community leadership—and the thousands of volunteer hours given by people who simply refused to let this treasured place be lost—Cuesta Inlet is now protected for generations to come. Their achievement is not only a gift to our environment but a testament to what a community can accomplish when people step forward with heart, grit, and hope.

If helpful to the committee, I can provide a comprehensive list of the volunteers who dedicated their time and talents throughout this 43-month effort.

The volunteers of Save Cuesta Inlet have demonstrated extraordinary service, broad community involvement, and deep commitment to the well-being of Los Osos. They are richly deserving of this recognition.
